What is a Gantt Chart?

A Gantt chart is a graphical representation of a project, it is the way in which we can see our project divided into phases and visualize, tasks, responsibilities and delivery dates.

The Gantt chart was named after Henry Gantt, an engineer in 1890 who was the first person to wonder, how all the tasks of a project could be graphically represented on a timeline to have the entire team on the same page.

To this day the Gantt chart is one of the most common ways to view a project’s schedule and obtain additional information about a project.

What are its components?

• Dates: they allow us to know the start and end status of the projects, so it they give us the ability to keep in mind the deadlines of our project and helps us prioritize.
  
• Tasks: they are the pieces that make up a larger project, dividing a project into tasks helps us assign responsibilities.
• Delivery times: they help us see how tight our project schedules are and how much time we have to adjust our road map.
  
• Progress:  this is the number of activities carried out vs the number of pending activities.
  
• Dependencies: they are the relationship between tasks, in which a task cannot be executed if another task is not specified.
